UK Training Camp Day 3
Excellent day, we cover more advanced Principles and Concepts of the Chu Sau Lei Wing Chun System.
Some abridged notes from Sai Jun Mak
Chi Sau
• Link de-link drill in 8 directions.
• When delinking don’t waste the opportunity to strike.
• When rolling do not drop tan sau otherwise not possible to scoop the palm strike.
• Aim for the defending side shoulder when palm striking – if they defend it’s still possible to strike their centre.
• strength – it is possible to float their balance. This is because the fulcrum point of the arms cannot adjust to maintain their base. Their arms become a lever for the whole body.
• Floating is better than pulling (jut sao) as their proprioception is less active because they are not as aware that their balance is falling forwards.
• You can wait for the opponent to lock up or you can cause them to stiffen up by pressing them first – if they have poor structure they are more likely to tense the upper body when pressed and they will press back with a high centre of gravity.
• Use your legs / base to hold their tension and weight for a split second before releasing to strike.
4 Defences for the Lap Sao attack
