They follow the life and adventures of Ellie Burnham, a child separated from her family and raised by a mysterious group of ancient animal spirits to be their agent of revenge in a human world that allows them less and less space to live.
When Ellie can no longer live with her brutal assignments she goes on the run from her former mentors and falls in with a group of refugees. She becomes the leader and protector of a small band of children as they make for safety and a new home.
